Its Like Moving to a New House ... Without the New House

I started Round One with concrete. I lost.

Self-leveling cement should not be more than 2 inches thick, but we have almost four inches to fill at the deepest point. My idea, then, was to put a layer of some kind down that could have self-leveling cement poured over the top. I asked a construction contractor in the ward who contacted a concrete franchise in Ogden and they agreed it would work with the right materials.

I ordered 6 bags of PatchCrete and went to work on the first layer, and ... I am absolutely awful at concrete work. PatchCrete is weird stuff. A 45 lbs. bag is mixed with a gallon of some kind of glue that looks like milk, and you mix it up fast and then spread the peanutbutter-like stuff. I did a poor job, but it is just added base so I figure it mattereth not.

But, I also felt I needed more. I had planned on doing a circle in the floor, but as I started it looked like the cement is more like a trough. Which meant I ran out of concrete before getting to the end. I ran back to the concrete specialties place and they only had two more bags and bottles left. I put them down, and I didn't go quite as far as I wanted to go, but I measured around the best I could and I don't think anywhere is deeper than an inch and a half. Whew.

I will have to try the self-leveling stuff next Saturday. I am not sure how to do it right, but another neighbor has done it and I hope he can help me understand and do it right. I wish I could just fill it with something that could be as liquid as water ... fill it like a swimming pool, and let it harden.

As you can see, we are also patching dents and holes.

We are disappointed to not have our TV room for at least another week, though.

There is more important news than this, but this is what is on my mind.

Esther's birthday is Monday. Whoa! She drew this adorable picture of Marcus the other day:

And, I will add another brilliant quote that makes no sense but is perfectly understandable. It is from her friend, Tyler, who said "they are being lead like a fish to the water." I love it!

Hang in there, friends. FYI, we are going to Spanish Fork tomorrow for Hyrum's homecoming.
