Hardware Wars

First a Sith Dishwasher, and now a Dark Lord of the Furnace. I am glad we are OK financially. If this continues, we won't be!

We were contacted by the dishwasher installer and he was two weeks out. Ugh. So, I had it delivered and installed it myself.

There are all these "right" ways to do things, which put me in difficult situations: the old house isn't built for things to be "right", and some things I want to leave in place so I don't have to tear everything apart.

I installed it and tested it, and it worked with no leaks. I then pushed it in all the way and fastened it to the sides, and tried again--and got a drain error. I pulled it out and it worked. I will attempt to push it in again soon, and I hope I don't mess it all up. Andrew, Joshua and Lucy all helped me at different points of the installation, which was really nice. Lucy was especially helpful, as she zip-tied the new hot water line to the existing drain line behind the Lazy Susan--a place I just could not reach.

Yesterday, our furnace started to flake out. The motor and switch died, in what order we don't know. I am so glad we had a good HVAC who could come out right away. It is cold right now! Our furnace is working fine now.

He thinks it will last another 10 years, but gave Susan a lot of info about the kind of furnace we should have for our large home and how it should be set up. He told us to plan on spending about $12,000 for another furnace in the next 10 years. How can anybody afford anything?

Well, at least all this money spent creates great photo opportunities! Here is Enoch posing in front of the dishwasher (he insisted):
