... and the bartender says "we don't serve minors in here."
Ba-da, bum.
Saturday was another remarkably busy day, as Joshua had a friend beg him to join a three-on-three tournament, I had set building, Andrew and Miriam had rehearsal, Andrew had work, and I think Jill's husband's viewing was that day, too. I did some home repairs and then Susie and I drove all around trying to get some "tree fingerprints" for her parents 50th wedding anniversary.
Joshua's team got slaughtered four times. Most three-on-three teams are comprised of the "Comp Team" kids who pay $3000+ to play competitively all year. I only watched one game, but it wasn't pretty. However, one of the parents said he was really proud of Joshua, especially during the last game. He even scored a few points on these mini-pros!
Our little trip allowed us to meet super-young new addition to the Adams household, Timothy. The photos of his large, ruptured cyst and exposed spinal cord made we ever more appreciative of the health of my children. It also made me again grateful and amazed at our level of medical competency. Timothy has endured a major surgery for his spina bifida already and is doing well. His feet are also clubbed, one quite severely, but they will hold off on worrying about any of that as they watch how his helps develop. Go Tim! (I told Pam that I nicknamed him Tiny Bill.)
It was also fun to see some nieces and nephews with Isaac and Sam. It was great seeing everyone. We had a short but fun time with Sam and Marilyn, too.
While Joshua's team was getting slaughtered, I was building a castle:
No body parts have yet to detach.
I also picked up some props and costumes from the Sandy Arts Guild on Friday, which was kind of fun. Beauty and the Beast will be a great show. I especially recommend everyone come to watch some talented napkins, one in particular named "Lucy".
Tonight was Pack Meeting, and Enoch will be able to go to Day Camp this year, so he got to design a shirt for the camp. They put tape wherever they want on the front, then a leader sprays the shirt with bleach and rinses, leaving a dark tape outline. I loved what Enoch did:
Josh went so fast I didn't even see his.
Last and most boring of all, I want to share something that I did RIGHT for once. I love it when I do something right. They are too few and far between.
Susie asked our great director Rachel to get something ready for G&G Nielson's fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday afternoon. She excitedly gathered the three younger than her together, but it quickly devolved into disagreements and some legitimate concerns, and then continued on to name calling and frustration between Rachel, Joshua and Enoch. (Esther was in her own imaginary world.)
This is when the self-righteous Papa usually enters and tells everyone they are ... well, acting their age. (How dare they?) For some odd reason, I didn't do that. In fact, I had genuine sympathy for the three concerns, and expressed that, and then commended them for trying to help out with the video. I suggested contention would not help, offered to say a prayer for them. We prayed together for help solving the problems, and I went back to what I was doing.
About 20 minutes later, Rachel, Joshua and Enoch were all excited about their idea and couldn't wait to tell me what they came up with. We enjoyed the results! And, I truly love it when the children solve their own challenges.
I love you all!
