Twenty-five

Twenty-five years ago today Susan Lois Nielson took a leap of faith and was sealed to me in the Manti Temple. She looked beautiful that day. I think she is more beautiful now.

This morning, I hadn't paid attention to the date. A radio personality mentioned that it was the 21st, and reflected on the great blessings that have flowed into my life since we have been together. It is mind-boggling!

I have another busy day today, but wanted to share one brief experience early in our married life that led me to realize I had hit the jack-pot.

Being a bit clueless as an English major in college, I realized very late that, to get a Bachelor of Arts degree at SUU that I needed a great many foreign language credits. I could either spend another year in school, or I could pass the BYU Chinese language test. I hadn't really spoken Chinese in years, but passing the test was the logical choice.

I got out the study materials I had and began. And, without asking, Susan joined in my studies: she copied Chinese characters on to post-it notes and placed them on the objects in our apartment; she quizzed me on Chinese vocabulary; she encouraged me in my studies and freed up my time. She was as invested in my success as I was.

She didn't need to do any of those things, but that Spirit of devotion and service was who she was before and is still with her now. I am so very grateful for her, and grateful she accepted my invitation to marry me. Happy Anniversary, Susie!
