Something on My Mind

I still have oodles of photos and things I want to share with you, but I friend shared this with me (from Linked In) and I thought I would share it with you, along with some brief thoughts from me.  Ray Dalio:

It has been on my mind recently not only because of irritability issues at home, but I have been acutely aware of it at work: my boss is so annoyed by our consultant that he is not even civil in many of their interactions. And, because of it, he is sabotaging our project.

The leader and director of our project, whose sole purpose is to make sure the project succeeds, is sabotaging the project! How does that happen?

Well, besides hypersensitivity to some minor annoyances, he feels the changes being proposed are showing that he has been wrong. The minor annoyances are magnified far beyond reality.

Now, I tend to agree that my boss has been wrong about some things. But, whether he is wrong about some things or not is really irrelevant. The problem is that he is reading his feelings of discomfort at the thought as proof that he is right. Feelings are a source of information, inviting us to explore why we feel the way we do. Feelings are not the final answer.

Susie talked to some of our children about "Mindfulness" the other day. Ray Dalio's advice fits this way of thinking. If we are agitated, annoyed, angered, etc., we should do our best to pause and find out why we really feel the way we do, and let the information teach us how to grow. If we justify our bad behavior because we have feelings, we miss out on opportunities to learn some really important truths.

I love you all!
