A House of the Lord in Layton Utah

I started this post way back in, if I remember right, late June or early July after the Layton Temple dedication and the beginning of my work there as a temple worker. And now I am watching General Conference on the morning of October 4th, 2024. While watching and listening to the beautiful music (shout-out to Brother Eich, who I just saw singing ☺), and realized I should finish this post! I got started, but distracted.

The Purpose of Political Correctness

Prison physician and psychiatrist (and writer that I have enjoyed), pen-named Theodore Dalrymple, said the following:

Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.

I think it is true, and thought I would put it here as a reminder amongst what I hope are mostly things more joyous and close to home in this blog.

A Peanut, Raisin and Oat Walk Into A Bar ...

... and the bartender says, "sorry fellas ... this ain't a granola bar".

That one is courtesy of Enoch, via Amazon Alexa.

I haven't had time to clean up the last of the old home movies, which I really really really want to do. But, in the meantime, I thought y'all should here Esther sing "Almost There" at a concert at the elementary school. Enjoy!

Valentine's Day Party: Middle Earth (02/10/2024)

Here are some photos and short videos from our annual Valentine's Day party. Thank you, everyone, for a truly wonderful time!

I always film my entrance, but it is, for whatever reason, too long to upload without saving to YouTube first -- and it is also 90 degrees sideways for some reason as well! So, to start it all off, a screenshot of the door will do, for now!

Videos Of Kate Hadley, Vera Benge & Erma Walker (Among Others)

My Great-Grandma Kate -- Kate Martha Warwood -- married Myron Whiteley in 1910. Grandma Vera was born in 1920. The following video is the only one I remember seeing of her, and it is nice to see them together, too. The end of the video also has my Grandma & Grandpa Walker: Erma (Winn) and Franklin Vernon Walker. There is another video of Grandma and Grandpa Walker visiting our home in 1969, along with four other old videos. Enjoy!

Seven More Three-Minute Moldy Oldie Goldies

Seven more silent, three-minute Super 8 movies of my family in the 60s & 70s.

I am putting these on my YouTube channel playlist called 1960s & 1970s.

Let's start with the coolest thing first: Esther's car's splendid slo-mo wreck:

Silent Movies + A Talkie

Elder Benge helped me get started digitizing some of our family's old Super 8 film, as well as some of the Digital 8 cassettes I have yet to record. So far, I have 12 of the old Super 8 three-minute reels done, spanning 1968 to 1977. There are more to come.

Today, I uploaded all 12 videos to Youtube, and I share them here. Each one has information in the description about the time, who is in them and what is happening, so I won't duplicate that information here.

I also uploaded, as a bonus, part of our Valentine's party in 2008, where we had many wounds (especially Gideon) trying to slay a dragon. (I, the King, just couldn't stop laughing.)
